Teresa the sloth was found by members of the community on a bench in the town of Miranda, Carabobo. She was brought to the veterinary clinic, where she died two days later of her wounds.
It is not unusual to have sloths on a square with trees in Venezuela, but this particular town has around six of them. Fights between the sloths of their small territory, aggravated by malnutrition and lack of food, caused Teresa’s ultimate fall from the tree.
ConBiVe, joined with members of the local community, the police and Brigada Rescate Animal are now working together on a project to catch, rehabilitate and release the remaining sloths back into the wild.
Our team has made a microdocumentary (in Spanish) on Teresa, which you can find here.
